Women in Optics should never have the 'i' of 'in' capitalized, unless used in a hashtag or in the name of the Twitter handle, "#WomenInOptics" and "@WomenInOptics" to delineate the three words. The acronym WiO is internal and should not be used in web copy.

 

While there is no punctuation in the logo for the EDI initiative at SPIE, when writing about the program use the Oxford comma and the word 'and' not capitalized as in "SPIE Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion."

 

The acronym EDI is internal and should not be used in web copy unless you follow the standard practice of spelling out the entire program name followed by EDI in parentheses. EDI is a more common acronym on social media and can be used at first mention if clear in context.

For the International Day of Light, the acronym IDL is common in our community and can be used in web copy if you follow the standard practice​ of spelling out the entire program name followed by IDL in parentheses at first mention.
